Spazio Sfera is a new wide venue, an innovative theatre with more than one bright room equipped for dancing and a big wonderful dome, where dance becomes a unique experience.
The theatre has a capacity of 350 seats, from where the stage is clearly visible. The stage is 10mx8m, is made of wood and has a level floor.

COMPETITION PURPOSE

MAD IDC wants to give dance the right time dimension. Therefore the competition will take place over two days. Included in the registration fee, on the first day dancers and teachers will have access to:

  • Ballet, contemporary dance and dance evolution workshops
  • On-stage reharsal

Dancers will have the chance to get accustomed to the stage and the venue and to enrich their dance knowledge.

Solos:  ballet, character dance, contemporary dance (duration solo baby and children max 2 min / junior senior max 3 min )

Groups: ballet, character dance, contemporary dance  (duration baby and children max 4 min/ junior senior max 5 min)

AGE GROUPS

  • 6 – 8 years: only ballet
  • 9 -12 years: ballet without pointe shoes, character dance, contemporary dance
  • 13 -16 years: ballet with or without pointe shoes, character dance, contemporary dance
  • From 17 years: ballet with or without pointe shoes, character dance, contemporary dance

Solos: 120€ workshops included

Groups: 35€ per dancer workshops included  

TICKETS

The tickets for the day of the competition need to be booked in advance and will be given on a first-come first-served basis.

Cost of ticket (unreserved seats): € 10

AWARDS

The top-three of each category will be awarded. Furthermore, special awards are being defined.

JURY

The jury will give a vote for each performance. Votes from judges who are assessing a performance of their dance style will weigh more.

ALBERTO RADICE - President of the jury

He has been director of Bovisio Masciago’s orchestra “Filarmonica G. Verdi” since 2000 and has held various concerts in collaboration with the string section of ”Gradus Eventi Musicali”.

He worked with the soloists of the corps de ballet of Teatro alla Scala in Milan and with internationally renowned étoiles. With them he directed the great waltzes by Strauss, “Carmen” by Bizet, “The Firebird” by Stravinsky, “Rhapsody in Blue” by Gershwin and “Boléro” by Ravel performed by Biagio Tambone.

In 1998 he directed “The Three-Cornered Hat” by Manuel de Fall at Teatro San Carlo in Naples.

Under the guidance of the conductor Iury Aronovich he directed “The Firebird” by Stravinsky with the orchestra “Filarmonica del Santa Cecilia” in Rome. In 1999 he perfected himself with the conductor Isaac Karatghetzky, by directing “L’Accademia della Filarmonica” of Teatro alla Scala in Riva del Garda.

He worked as an assistant conductor for “The Barber of Seville” by Rossini in Teatro La Fenice in Venice. In 2001 he directed the Verdian concert for the “Centenary of the death of G. Verdi” (arias and symphonies of the most famous works of the great G. Verdi)

In 2022 he worked with international artists for various concerts in theatres such as Teatro Nazionale and Teatro Smeraldo in Milan.

In 2006 he was the artistic director of “Sleeping Beauty” at Teatro Nazionale in Milan.

In 2007 he was the artistic director and director of “The Divine Comedy” at Teatro Smeraldo in Milan, where the dancers of Accademia Aloysius participated. He has been the artistic and educational director of Accademia Aloysius since 1997.

He studied music at the conservatoire G. Verdi in Milan and ballet and modern dance simultaneously. He attended the best Italian schools to become a dancer and choreographer. He finished his studies at C.S.C. in Milan, where he taught for two years.

He studied and specialized in flamenco with the greatest Spanish dancers and danced in the most important Italian theatres and international settings: Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro Nazionale in Milan, Teatro Smeraldo in Milan, Teatro Bellini in Catania, Teatro Greco in Taormina, Festival Internazionale in Massa Carrara and Teatro Regio in Turin.

He directed and produced the 2012 opera season at Teatro della Luna with the operas Tosca, Carmen (Ballet) and La Traviata. He was the artistic director of the ballet “Giselle” at Milano Palazzo Reale in 2017 and Teatro Argentia in Gorgonzola with the Junior Company Aloysius.

He directed the ballet Don Chisciotte at Teatro Elfo Puccini in 2018 and the Junior Company Aloysius with the ballet The Nutcracker at Teatro Argentina in Gorgonzola in December of the same year. In February 2020 he was the artistic director and choreographer of the ballet company Aloysius, for which he staged the ballet Carmen at Teatro Sociale in Bergamo and Teatro Nuovo in Milan.

He is currently the artistic director and founder of the dance training center MAD and the artistic director of Teatro Spazio Sfera in Bussero.

ORIELLA DORELLA - Ballet and character dance

Mrs. Dorella needs no introduction, we report only some of the main elements of her artistic history.
She entered the La Scala school at the age of 8, under the direction of Esmée Bulnes, she graduated in 1969. Within the corps de ballet of the Teatro alla Scala she is a soloist in 1972, prima ballerina in 1977, starting from 1986 étoile. Later she is artistic director of the Milan Ballet. On television, she participated in the 1981-1982 edition of Fantastico and in the big fictional films on Italia 1 in 2005 and Non stop dreaming in 2009 and 2011.
Among the most significant interpretations of her we remember La strada by Mario Pistoni to music by Nino Rota. She oriella Dorella she says she fell in love with the character of Gelsomina seeing the interpretation of Fiorella Cova, prima ballerina of La Scala and wife of Pistoni.
Other roles in the classical and contemporary repertoire played by Oriella Dorella are Giselle, Coppelia, The Nutcracker, Miss Julie by Birgit Cullberg, John Cranko’s The Taming of the Shrew, Kenneth McMillan’s L’Histoire de Manon, Onegin, Afternoon of a Faun by Jerome Robbins , Adam and Eve, Daphnis et Chloé by George Skibin, The Blue Angel by Roland Petit, Proust ou Les intermittences du coeur.

MARISA CAPRARA - Ballet and character dance

Classically trained dancer, she trained under the guidance of famous masters such as Victor Litvinov, Valentina Massini and Gabriel Popescu, arriving to carry out a career as a dancer in various Italian theaters. In 1992 he graduated as a teacher at the Ballet School of the Teatro alla Scala and founded together with the Principal Dancer of the Teatro alla Scala, Biagio Tambone and other colleagues, the A.I.D.A. Association, with the support of the then Director of the Ballet School of the Teatro alla Scala, Anna Maria Prina. In 1995 she coordinates the writing of the book Course of Classical Dance, published by De Vecchi.

In 2000 he obtained the Diploma of Professeur and Maitre de Ballet at the Teatro alla Scala and in the same year he became President of A.I.D.A., which since 2006 sees as Honorary President the Director of the Ballet School of the Teatro alla Scala, Frédéric Olivieri. Parallel to her teaching activity, she is in charge of the creation and production of some classical ballets, of which she signs the choreography. In 2008 she founded the AIDA lei academic classical dance training center, of which she is still the Artistic and Didactic Director.
Since 2009 she has been Professor of Classical Academic Practice, in the A.I.D.A. in collaboration with Accademia Teatro alla Scala.

ANGELO EGARESE - Contemporary dance

He was born in Milan in 1984 and lived in Naples where he studied classical and contemporary dance. He specializes in Florence and Budapest.
He has worked as a professional dancer in various Italian and European companies.
In 2012 he founded the Kinesis CDC based in Florence.
Winner of the competition DANZ’E ’- DANZ’E’ OFF in Rovereto, with the creation of a show for the
Festival Oriente Occidente.
Selected for the platform of young choreographers in Almada Portugal. Selected for the European project “The craft of art” by Fabbrica Europa.
Choreographer for Balletto del sud by Fredy Franzutti
Selected for the Choreographic Dance European project of the National Dance Foundation,
Aterballetto and the Teatro Regio di Parma Foundation.
His productions for Kinesis CDC are and have been on tour in important National Festivals and International.
Since 2016 he has specialized in the creation of cultural projects that have seen the support of: Tuscany Region, CR Firenze Foundation, Municipality of Florence and Montevarchi (AR), Publiacqua, MIC Ministry of Culture, Florence Dance Festival.

VIRGINIA SPALLAROSSA - Contemporary dance

She is the director and choreographer of the company DéjàDonné, a dance production organization supported by the MIC, Ministry of Cultural Heritage. She trained at the Teatro alla Scala and participated from an early age in theater productions working as a soloist for Paolo Bortoluzzi in “Il Principe Felice “, With Carla Fracci and Rudolf Nureyev in” The Nutcracker “; she specializes at the Académie Princesse Graçe in Monte Carlo and then approaches contemporary dance by studying with the main release technique masters. Since 2007 she has been a dancer and assistant of the international CIA DéjàDonné. He danced in the Olympic Contemporary Ballet and took part in seasons of the Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Arena di Verona, Rossini Opera Festival, Carlo Felice di Genova, Opera di Bilbao, Opera di Roma, Comunale di Firenze, Bunkakhan in Tokyo , Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. She holds courses and seminars: Catholic University of Mi-teacher of contemporary dance and physical theater in the Master “Pedagogical actions and interactions through storytelling and theatrical education” for the Faculty of Education; she leads masterclasses at the International Dance Theaters Festival in Lublin; at the SEAD – Salzburg; Videodance workshop with the filmmaker Gilles Toutevoix at the International Dançaem foco Festival – Rio de Janeiro; she is guest lecturer at the Duncan Center Conservatory in Prague. Since 2017 she has worked alongside the director Jacopo Spirei as assistant director, movement coach and choreographer in some opera productions including Nabucco at the Teatro Sociale in Como, Rinaldo, for OperaLombardia and Ballo in Maschera at the Teatro Regio in Parma.

GIULIA ZOMPA - Visual and scenic impact, artistry

Founder and Director of Micro Mosso, an association that deals with Contemporary Art. You are a historian of contemporary art. Her research focuses on the new national and international art scene of the eighties and nineties of the twentieth century, arriving at contemporary expressions. You have collaborated with various Italian and foreign companies in the sector including Saatchi Gallery (London) and more recently LOOM Gallery (Milan).

LUCIA BALDINI - Visual and scenic impact, artistry

She has worked as a set photographer for various companies and theatre and dance festivals for more than 30 years.

In 1997 she published the photobook “Giorni di Tango”. She got in touch with the most interesting musical and choreographic experiences related to Argentinean tango and, respectively in 2000 and 2005, she worked with the writer Michela Fregona on the books “Anime Altrove – luoghi e genti del tango argentino in Italia” and “Tangomalìa”.  

She started her collaboration with Carla Fracci – which lasted for more than 12 years – in 1996 with the show “Omaggio a Nijinsky” directed by Beppe Menegatti. This collaboration brought to the creation of the book and photographic exhibition “Carla Fracci immagini”. The exhibition has been held in prestigious venues in Italy and abroad. Last August the Italian Cultural Institute brought the exhibition in Mexico City. In 2006 she started her work as a set photographer with the director Carlo Mazzacurati for the movies “La Giusta Distanza” and “La Passione”. With the publication of “Dramma sacro – Omaggio al Mantegna” she has started a new chapter of research and experimentation on the male body.

In 2010  “Buenos Aires cafè” – a travel journal co-written by Lucia Baldini and Michela Fregona based on images and words – was published by the publishing house Postcart in Rome. Buenos Aires cafè won the “Marco Bastianelli 2010” award as the best photobook of the year.

In 2012 the same publishing house published the photo essay “Luci sulla Ribalta”, which focuses on the work of set photographers through dialogues with actors, directors, choreographers and musicians and talks about her work of more than 25 years as a photographer.

Since 2014 she has been working with actors and theatre companies as an assistant director and co-author of theatrical scripts.

In 2020 she contributed to create GAIA la Nuova Umanità, the artistic project that investigates the relation between man and nature through photographic and video research.

For fifteen years she has held workshops and seminars on set photography and identity through self-representation.

Her works are part of Italian and foreign public and private collections.

Her exhibitions have been held in Italy and abroad in galleries and institutional venues.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

  1. The competition is open only to NON-professional students of dance schools.
  2. Each dancer must have a valid medical certificate of fitness for non-competitive sports and insurance coverage from their school.
  3. The competition is open to soloists and groups (from 3 to a maximum of 10 dancers).
  4. Before registering please call 00393463546341 or send an email to madconcorsodanza@gmail.com to have confirmation that registrations are still open and to get the IBAN to issue the payment for the registration fee/fees. The payment description must include the name of the dance school or the soloist and the name of the choreography for groups.
  5. The registration will be considered completed after receiving the payment receipt together with the registration form of the soloist or group and the rules and regulation form signed by the supervisor or the dancers. Authorizations for minors and adults can be sent later.
  6. Music must be sent before 15th October in MP3 format only.
  7. Accompanying people will be responsible for the proper use of the area assigned to the soloist/group while waiting for their performance, for the respect of the theatre and those who will use the area later.
  8. In order for the judges to be able to work undisturbed and for the respect of all competitors, it is forbidden to applaud and to enter and exit the hall during a performance.
  9. The undersigned releases and holds harmless the organization from any liability related to property and personal damage that may occur in the venues of MAD IDC.
  10. The organization is not responsible for the loss, theft or damage of property brought in the venues of MAD IDC by competitors and supervisors, as it has no obligation of safekeeping.
  11. In case of withdrawal from the competition, the registration fee will not be refunded.
  12. Participating in MAD IDC implies full acceptance of the rules and regulations and any supplementary rule that may be added in the future and would have the same legal value of the already existing rules.
  13. The organization reserves the right to make changes to the event for technical reasons and to change the venue, schedule and structure of the activities based on the evolution of health situation. The organization will apply all the measures provided to guarantee the absolute safety of all participants.
  14. in case of impossibility to carry out MDC IDC, the registration fee will be fully refunded.
  15. By signing the registration form the competitor – or their parents/legal guardian – is aware of the criminal and administrative liability in case of false statements (art. 26, Law of 04/01/1968 no. 15 and art. 76, Decree of the President of Republic of 28/12/2000 no. 445).
  16. COVID-19 HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOL: the protocol in force on 31st October/1st November 2022 will be applied.

LOREDANA MAPELLI - Ballet workshop teacher

She started her studies at Teatro alla Scala in Milan in 1971. In 1982 and 1990 she was named Soloist and Prima Ballerina at Teatro alla Scala. She worked with the most renowned choreographers (Rudolf Nureiev – Birgit Cullberg – Louis Falco – Alvin Ailey – Robert North – Glen Tetley – Maurice Bejart – Patricia Neary [for N.Y. City Ballet] – Ugo Dell’Ara – Paolo Bortoluzzi – Mario Pistoni – Nicolas Beriozof – John Field – Leonide Massine – Patrice Bart and others), touring in Europe and around the world in the main and most prestigious theatres (New York, Buenos Aires, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Moscow, Athens, Malta, France, Seville) and dancing together with the most important exponents of international dance. Since 1976 she has been focusing on teaching dance. 

LUCA RIMOLO - Ballet workshop teacher

He studied at Centro di Formazione A.I.D.A. and Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Afterwards he was admitted at the Palucca University of Dance in Dresden (Germany) where he worked with the SemperOper Ballet company. He graduated in 2013.

Ha danced for: Balletto di Milano, Croatian National Theater (Split), Wrocław Opera, Balletto del Sud, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre (NYC), New York Theatre Ballet (NYC), Ajkun Ballet Theatre (NYC), South Bohemian Ballet (Czech Rep.).

Currently he is a ballet master and has been a teacher in U.S.A., Poland and Italy since 2015.

CONVENTION WITH MAD IDC – Hotel For You:

Rate for single use: Eur 99 euros per night + tourist tax
Double use rate: Eur 120 euros per night + tourist tax
Triple use rate (double + extra bed): Eur 140 per night + tourist tax

The rate includes: VAT, buffet breakfast (from 7:00 to 10:00), WIFI internet connection in the room, access to the fitness area, parking space in the outdoor parking area.
